Steep conditions and burned soil make rockfall and landslides a potential danger in the gorge, especially during rainfall.

The rain gage used here is a type known as a "tipping bucket rain gage" and it measures rainfall in 0.01 inch increments. The total rain is tallied and transmitted once an hour.
